About

My journey into this bryophyte world actually started with studying lichen. In 2019, when it came time to acquire a microscope to take my studies further, I decided to start off with putting something “simple” under the lens as I got used to working the microscope computer program and its tools. After grabbing some yard moss, tossing it onto a slide and putting a few drops of water on it, I played with all the settings and then decided it was time to put a name to this species of moss under my nose. That is when I realized that mosses were much more diverse, intense, and challenging than I had realized. At that point I fell hard into that bryophyte rabbit hole and have happily never found my way out since.

“”What’s the use of their having names” the Gnat said, “if they won’t answer to them?” “No use to them,” said Alice, “but it’s useful to the people who name them, I suppose. If not, why do things have names at all?” “I can’t say.” the Gnat replied.”

Alice in Wonderland

The bryophyte world is astounding, breathtaking, and still surrounded in a bit of mystery. My goal for this site, is to share with you what I find and what I learn as I walk this earth observing these wonderful little beings.
