There is much information that we are lacking about the bryophyte world in North America, and the newly formed Bryophyte Conservation Alliance (BCA) wants to turn the tides on that bottleneck of information. All levels of knowledge are welcome from the beginners to the seasoned bryologists. The following is the list of goals from their website:
“As the challenges facing bryophyte communities continue to increase, the BCA is focused on three ambitious goals:
- Increase general knowledge and appreciation of bryophytes
- Create a clearinghouse for information on bryophyte conservation
- Develop and implement bryophyte conservation-related research and strategies“
The BCA is broken into regional groups, with Missouri being in the Central US region. Our first zoom meeting will be held on February 13th, 2026 at 10:30am CST. If you would like to join in on the meeting and learn more about what some of the goals are, please fill out the RVSP below, or go directly to the BCA’s website and register there. If you are in another region, the BCA will have the contact information for the leads of your area.
I am very excited about the direction this alliance is headed and what possibilities lie before us, and I look forward to working with them.
Happy Mossing!
