Now that my Mosses of Missouri Through a Hand Lens field guidebook is here and finding its’ way into the public’s hands; as promised, I have begun to set up bryophyte hikes. Once a month we will meet at a different location that offers a unique, little green moss haven in Missouri for us to explore. If you have suggestions, please feel free to contact me. While I make no promises that I can set something up (travel time is a factor), I welcome the input for all places mossy. These hikes are free and open to all levels of bryophyte knowledge.

What to Bring

I recommend a hand lens; a 10-20x magnification will do nicely, and ideally with an LED light on it. These can be purchased relatively inexpensively through on-line sites. You can if you’d like, bring a small water bottle to re-hydrate any dried-up mosses.

I carry a rather large water bottle, but you really only need a travel size spritzer. Make sure to put your hand lens on a lanyard so that you don’t lose it!

Should we explore a place that has water, tall water boots are highly recommended.

Bring liquids to drink for yourself and a snack to eat along the way. Be sure to have sunscreen and bug repellant, wear sturdy shoes, and always dress for the weather. If you haven’t already purchased my book, I will have them on hand for sale.

See you out on the mossy trail!!
